The Life of Rily

Sunday, October 23, 2005

Well I haven't posted in a while. Been a busy time. Had to get kids and school rolling.

April is now at boot camp for the USAF. I talked to her last night. She's been better, can't imagine she's been any worse. She's finding out that life back home wasn't as hard as she thought. She said the physical stuff is fine, except for her feet. The running is killing her. As much as she stretches, they still hurt.

April has gained 7 pounds in basic training. Leave it to her to actually gain weight in basic. After the last 2 years, struggling with loosing the weight so she could get in! I think it's bizarre. She says it's all muscle weight. She said the food is good there, but they don't have time to eat it.

Meanwhile back at the homefront...Carlee is in the school play. It's called Honk JR. Weird but oh well. I'll be glad when that's over. Takes a lot of her time. She's not been doing homework this year, which I'm just finding out about now. She said she lost hope of going to Harvard after her 1 day suspension last year, so she gave up. Took a while to find out what the problem was, but now that I know...we're working on it. Attitude is everything. She's getting caught up and is encouraged again about college. She's only 11, who could imagine it would mean so much to someone so young.

Toby is active in Cub Scouts this year again. He's a Webelo and loving it. They're having a Halloween party on Tuesday night. This is a good group of boys and it has been pretty consistant over the last 4 years, so it's a great experience for him.

I'm working and holding down the fort. What else is there to say.

Have a great day. I'm off to make breakfast and start a speghetti sauce for dinner. We're also carving pumpkins later. Another busy day.

Bye Bye

I got into work today and there was a voice mail from April. She called on Saturday and said she didn't have time to chat, only to give her address. She sounded okay, but not as excited as when I heard from her last. She's been there since Tuesday so she might be a little tired. I hope she's okay.

The other problem is I could barely understand her voice mail. I hope I got her address correct. I'll send out a letter today as a test. I'm also thinking of calling the base and trying to verify the address. Can't think of anything else I can do at this point. Just have to wait until I hear from her again.

If anyone wants to write to April...email me or call me and I'll give you her address.

OMG April is so excited. She called me tonight from San Antonio. She flew to San Antonio from Dallas, and now they're waiting for the bus to take them to the air force base.

April said she didn't sleep last night. Tonight, they get the bus to the base and then they process in when they get there. She said they won't sleep tonight either. But she is thrilled. She took her cell phone with her and that's what she called me on. She said they'll take that when she gets to the base. No cell phones at basic training.

Well I probably won't hear from her now for a while. But I'm so glad she called.

She did it! April weighed in at exactly 170lbs. She's In!! They will be leaving Miami Florida and flying to Dallas Texas at 3:55pm today. Then they fly to San Antonio and on to Lackland AFB. I'm so proud of her. It's been quite a battle, but she has finally succeed. She is living her dream.

Well April went to Maimi today. Bill drove her to the recruiters office, and her, the recruiter and I think 2 other recruites, drove down to the processing center in Miami. If all goes well there in the morning, April will fly to Lackland Air Force Base in Texas tomorrow. Say Prayers! Last week she weighed in at 172. They wanted 164, so needless to say, they were disappointed. She has to be 170 or less tomorrow.
